Frequently asked house portraits questions

How does the ordering process work? 

Orders are placed on the website. Once you choose your house portrait product (we have several different options and add-ons!), you’ll upload your photos and your desired caption (some clients like to include the family name, address, etc). This caption will be hand inked below your portrait. Here is an example of a portrait with a caption. 

How long will my order take? What if I need it quickly?

Once you’ve placed your order, please allow 3-4 weeks for your order to be delivered. Holiday orders for 2020 will be closed November 20. Please be sure to order before then to guarantee Christmas delivery. If you need it quicker than the 3-4 week lead time, please email me with your order number and desired delivery date. 

Do you work from photos? What if I only have old photos?

I create my portraits from photographs. The more pictures, the better; be sure to take several different angles if possible. If you are commissioning a house that is not in your city, or is no longer there, I’m able to work from old photographs, a google street view, or realtor listings - just please make sure you send any details to hello@maizie-clarke.com  that are not apparent from photographs. 

What if I have special requests? 

I love special requests! Love your home in a certain season? Are your roses not in season but you want them captured in your portrait? Please send any requests to hello@maizie-clarke.com  and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

What medium do you work in?

My house portraits are hand inked, and then finished with watercolor. I create all house portraits on 140lb cold press watercolor paper. Originals are mailed in a clear sleeve and cardboard backer to prevent bending. 

What are my framing options?

Our portraits are delivered unframed, if you are interested in having it framed, we have a partnership with Simply Framed and can send your painting directly to them for framing, purchase a gallery frame here.  Please allow at least 5-6 weeks for delivery. 

Do you offer any other sizes other than 5x7 or 8x10?

I typically do not offer any other sizes, but please email me hello@maizie-clarke.com  and let me know the details of your project. 

Can you paint something other than my house?

I specialize in architectural illustrations, so the short answer is yes, please read more about different projects I’ve completed, here.

Can you include my pets in my portrait?

I’m happy to include any furry friends in a portrait, but please note, their spot in the composition will be small.

Can you include people in my portrait? 

Unfortunately, I do not paint people. My passions have lead me to illustrating architecture and houses.
